Scura Partners Advises Eastern Fish Company on its Sale to Marubeni Corporation

April 7, 2014

Scura Partners Securities LLC (“SP”) is pleased to announce that Eastern Fish Company has been acquired by a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation. SP provided strategic and financial advisory services to Eastern Fish and acted as exclusive financial advisor in the transaction.

Headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey, Eastern Fish is one of the largest importers and marketers of shrimp in the United States, with annual sales volume of more than 70 million pounds. Eastern Fish has long-term business relationships with major U.S. retail chains and food service providers. The transaction will provide Eastern Fish with greater financial capacity and access to Marubeni’s global networks, enabling it to accelerate growth and distribute a broader line of fish and seafood.

Marubeni, one of the largest general trading companies in Japan, has completed several acquisitions in the seafood space over the last three years, with the goal of building a global sales network covering Japan, Europe and the United States. With the acquisition of Eastern Fish, Marubeni will enjoy strong relationships with producers in Alaska, Asia, and South America, and cover the entire value-added chain from production to sales of final products. Marubeni’s sales of shrimp in Japan and the U.S. will increase to $488 million a year.
